Section D. Payout
The required payoff for NBHA sanctioned shows is as follows:
- A minimum of 75% of all entry fees must go to the jackpot. (Exception: If a show offers at least $1,000 added money, a minimum of 70% of all entry fees must go to the jackpot.) That is, a maximum of 25% (or a maximum of 30% if at least $1,000 added) may be withheld as the “office charge.” If more than 25% is withheld pursuant to the above, this fact must be stated on any show bills or flyers. This is exclusive of other fees which may be charged for specific purposes such as State District Awards Fees as defined below, timer fee, processing fee or arena fee. While we permit such charges, they must not be excessive, must be clearly stated in all advertising and show bills, and must be directed to the specific purposes as labeled, for example, the timer fees must either be paid to the timer owner/operator, or put toward the purchase of a timer for the district. The charging of a “processing fee” to district shows, the sole purpose of which is to add to the general revenue of the show, is not permitted.
- To help support the State Championships by raising money for State Awards all NBHA sanctioned shows must charge a minimum $2.00 awards fee with a minimum $1.00 going to the District and a minimum $1.00 going to the State Director for State Championships. If your district will not be awarding year-end awards there may not be a district fee. Each State can elect for higher fees for State and District if approved by the Regional Directors.
- Shows may choose to payout their classes in a 3D, 4D or 5D although points are always awarded in a 5D. The times splits between the divisions for a 3D payout class is 1.0 – 1.0 second splits, 4D payout class may be either 0.5 – 0.5 – 0.5 second splits or 0.5 – 0.5 – 1 second splits, and splits for a 5D format must be 0.5 second between all divisions. It is up to the Director to choose the payout best suited.

- Added money will be divided in the same ratio used above for the entry fees or split evenly among all divisions.
- There are no restrictions regarding how added money is apportioned among classes at a show. For example, a show may add money to the Open but not to Youth or Seniors.

- District Directors will check payback in all NBHA classes. Paying more than the stated places requires approval of the District Director.
- All prize money must be paid out.
- Prize money will NOT be paid to any contestant who knocks over a barrel.
- At any NBHA show, if not enough riders qualify in a division as monies to be paid, the money which is unaccounted for shall be divided equally among those who have placed in that division, or based upon the percentages of payout for the placings as shown in charts above in (5) until no leftover money remains. If no riders qualify in a division, the prize money for that division shall be divided among those riders in the other divisions of that class who have won prize money.
